Claire Elise Boucher (/bu:'SeI/ boo-SHAY, born on 17 March, 1988) is professionally known as Grimes, is a Canadian musician, singer, songwriter, and record producer. There are many styles of her music from the beginning has been called "lo fi R&B" as well as "futuristic dance-pop". In addition, she has included elements of hip-hop electronic music, as well as rock. Many of her lyrics have science fiction-related themes and feminist themes. Five studio albums have been released by her. Grimes was raised in Vancouver but moved to Montreal in 2000. Grimes started releasing her songs as a solo artist from the mid 2000s. Two albums were released through Arbutus Records in 2010, Geidi Primes and Halfaxa in 2010. After contracting with 4AD and gaining the charts through Visions which was her 3rd studio album. Visions contains the singles "Genesis", and "Oblivion" and won she the Juno Award in Canada for Electronic Album of the year. The album followed this and she released her fourth studio album Art Angels, was released in 2015 and received the acclaim of critics, with several publications having declared it to be the top album of 2015. In the year 2020, she released Miss Anthropocene (her fifth studio album). Grimes is an official judge of Alter Ego, a music contest.
